Two days of participatory events curated by Dr Marcus Leadley (Goldsmiths, University of London) exploring the sounds of the Horniman Museum and Gardens and our impact on the environment.

On Saturday, soundwalks, field recording and composition workshops will culminate in a collaborative live performance in the Conservatory.

On Sunday, performances and sound works exploring environmental change will be broadcast from the Bandstand via wireless headphones throughout the gardens.

Across the weekend, an interactive sound installation by artist Ambrose Seddon will bring the sounds of the local ecosystem into the Natural History Gallery. Sound installations will also be available throughout the Gardens.

Being Human festival is led by the School of Advanced Study (SAS), University of London in partnership with the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the British Academy.

Being Human Festival 2019: the UK’s only national festival dedicated to demonstrating the breadth, diversity and vitality of the humanties. This year’s theme is ‘Discoveries & Secrets’. At heart, the festival is all about making research in the humanities – from art history to philosophy, history to classics and literature to languages – accessible and fun for as many people as possible.
